Areas of research: paper characterisation and paper recycling, non-destructive measurement methods, innovative printing materials.

The former Research Director and Executive Vice President of KCL, During the later parts of his career JEL was deeply involved with questions related to research strategies and international research cooperation. In this context he was also  involved with the EU research programs, including COST
